Max Hoffman was a European automobile importer for whom Frank Lloyd Wright designed a house in Rye, NY as well as a Jaguar dealership in New York City. The floating, boldly colored, intersecting circles with square accents were the carpet design for the living room of the Hoffman home. Although the rug was not executed in 1957 for that home, after Wright’s death it was woven for Wright’s own living room at Taliesin in Spring Green, Wisconsin.
